What is Fantastic Beasts?
Fantastic Beasts is an American-British fantasy film series inspired by the Harry Potter novels written by J.K. Rowling. It follows the adventures of Newt Scamander, a magizoologist who travels around the world to find and document magical creatures.
The first film in the series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, was released in 2016, followed by its sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in 2018. Both films were directed by David Yates and have grossed over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
Set in 1926, the first movie follows Newt as he arrives in New York City with a suitcase full of magical creatures – including a Niffler, an Occamy, and a Demiguise – which escape into the city causing chaos across Manhattan.
As he attempts to track them down, Newt finds himself wrapped up in a much larger mystery involving the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald and his plans for world domination. Along with his friends Jacob Kowalski, Tina Goldstein and Queenie Goldstein, Newt must stop Grindelwald before it’s too late.
